Beginning Sunday August 25th, the church will be open for silent prayer and eucharistic adoration at 5pm. The blessed sacrament will be on the altar with candles. This will be a time to pray in church, to rest, and simply to sit in the presence of Christ in the sacrament. Adoration may be a new experience or practice for many of us. One of the best descriptions of adoration comes in a story from St. John Vianney, a priest appointed to the small town of Ars, France in 1818. Vianney knew an older farmer in the town who would come and sit before Christ on the altar or in the tabernacle for long periods of time. Eventually Vianney asked the farer what he was doing. The farmer replied, “I look at him and he looks at me.” Come find some time to gaze on Jesus as he gazes lovingly as always on you. When we have the right folks around, we will plan on ending adoration with a brief service of benediction where we will sing hymns and be blessed by the sacrament.
